It all started as a hopeful dream. We are committed to providing an uplifting, challenging, well-organized and family-friendly programming that contributes positively to the basketball community in our home province of Saskatchewan. We believe in the African proverb that it “It takes a village to raise a child" which includes a community that provides, develops, and interacts positively with young people in a safe and healthy environment. We are proud to be a part of that village in our communities. There is a Mad Love for the sport of basketball in Saskatchewan and we are proud to be part of that.
Another strong value we have is learning and continuous improvement. We are students of the game, and we learn from all our athletes, coaches, volunteers, friends, family, basketball leaders, and the community everyday. We focus our training programs on Canada Basketball Athlete Development Model including but not limited to effective movement, developing athletic muscles, building basketball awareness, and improving player skills. Saskatchewan Home Court Basketball is also a proud member of Basketball Saskatchewan.
With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it was came to a difficult decision to cancel the 2nd Summer Camp due to the rise of cases in the province. Although this was disappointing, this allowed for an opportunity for the organization to pivot towards group and private basketball training all year round! This was core to the family’s values to keep children active sports are cancelled, and allow for student athletes to connect with the youth of the community while getting coaching hands-on experience.
Coaches share experiences of having to overcome mental barriers like injuries, playing time, coaching staff or teammate frustration. This will hopefully lay down the foundation and indicate to athletes that the staff at Home Court are there not only to listen, but teach and propel athletes through their young athletic career. The goal of Home Court Basketball is to teach extraordinary effective movement and mobility and put athletes through challenging and complex drills, not complicated. Make them have to work through drills or activities that may challenge them physically and mentally that will teach them that they are capable of achieving anything they put their mind to.
Our Values
We are guided by the following values:
Learning – knowing that acquiring any new skill including basketball skills is a process and gained through experience, studying, putting in the work and being coached properly. This involves improving your skills by engaging in repeated and intentional experiences. We never stop learning and we hope you never do too.
Another important component for our organization which is learning about Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final Report was released with 94 calls to action, including five (#87-91) that addressed reconciliation actions tied to sport specifically. We are committed to learning and working with community partners on how to do our part in these Calls to Action in our basketball programming. We are an open and welcoming place for all!
Friendship – basketball has always been about relationships for us, developing great bonds with other people that enjoy this beautiful game. This including talking, playing, and spending time together with people that trust each other and can watching out for each other. Friendships transcend the basketball court and very important to our program. We have the most amazing friendships because of this game and so grateful to be able to give-back and gain new friendships.
Teamwork – We have all heard the saying, “there is no I in team!” We believe in that wholeheartedly. For us, teamwork is when individuals come tother to support each other and work towards a common goal. Together we are better, stronger, inclusive, diverse, and healthier.
FUN – if you are not enjoying what you are doing, that makes it hard to give it your best and be part of it in the long-term. Basketball is hard work, but it is joyful and exciting. We have fun when we participate in basketball and our hope and dream is that all that participate in our programming or this sport in general has a great time.
