Saskatchewan Home Court Basketball: COVID-19 Return to Play Guidelines

I. Restrictions

Please note that we still want to limit the opportunity for transmission as much as possible, so it is very important to ensure that the following guidelines are still followed:

  1. Participants must sanitize their hands at the very least at the start and conclusion of training, and where able also during down time in between drills

  2. Participants must ensure that their ball has been cleaned prior to stepping onto the court and prior to hand sanitization

  3. Wherever/whenever possible please make sure you are trying to maintain physical distance from each other when not participating in your contact drills, this includes altering your forms of positive reinforcement (no high fives).

  4. Try as much as possible to eliminate people touching unnecessary surfaces (benches, tables, walls etc.)

  5. Participants must bring their own water bottles

  6. No spectators on the courts due to risk of transmission and simply due to the lack seating space in the facility.

  7. Eliminate as much as possible the congregation of participants prior to or after the conclusion of training.

  8. Coaches because you will be involved in overseeing a number of players within multiple sessions you will be required to wear a facemask and maintain at least 2 metres distance from all other participants and not touching anyone else’s equipment.

  9. Please have a plan in place to conduct the initial check in and group assignment so that players are not inadvertently gathering outside of their group.

II. Reporting

If you suspect that a participant might have COVID-19 you must communicate with the Saskatchewan Home Court Basketball office as soon as possible. This includes if someone chooses not to attend because they are showing COVID like symptoms from the daily attestation form through to if you hear during midweek that someone is sick. The office will follow up with that respective person to determine to determine next steps. If we are informed of a positive case, we will (hopefully temporarily) shut down that specific program until getting confirmation that all participants are cleared to return to sport.

III. Mitigation Checklist

Relevant staff/senior volunteers will be informed about the latest available guidance on the COVID-19 outbreak and are they aware of national and local daily situation reports. Waivers (BSI's template - return to sport package) will be issued prior to training start date, participants/parents will be asked to sign and indemnify Homecourt Basketball (all individuals).

Hand sanitize stations, temperature checks, and daily assessments and declarations will all help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Athletes should be maintained in as contained a node as possible. Training groups should be kept consistent to minimize any group cross-over.

  1. All athletes MUST have their own water bottles and towels, etc. Water bottles should be filled at home.

  2. Athletes must arrive dressed to train, do as much preparation at home, and leave straight from training.

  3. ALL equipment is will be assigned to an individual athlete and to be cleaned and disinfected between sessions. If assigned to more than 1 individual they should be in staggered training groups with enough time in between for thorough washing and sanitization.

  4. Restricted or no access to restrooms.
